MatML is a markup language for the exchange of property data values. MatML has the potential to provide the materials data marketplace:

• one common materials data exchange format
• a non-proprietary "esperanto"
• direct program-to-program interoperability
• a flexible, extensible markup language

MatML is of interest to everyone involved in the development, reporting, interchange, and application of materials information, including:

• Testing laboratories
• Database and software developers
• Information publishers
• Specialists in materials selection from preliminary to final stages
• Designers using materials information (especially but not limited to FEM application)
• Materials quality assurance assessment
